A memorable day, an event to remember

imageThe 16 November 2010 in Nairobi, UNESCO has proclaimed the Mediterranean Diet intangible Humanity. It’ was a historic day for Italy, Spain, Greece and Morocco who have reaped the fruits of a joint work started 13 March 2010, By signing "Declaration of Chefchaouen ", to support the candidacy of the Mediterranean diet on the list of UNESCO World Heritage.

To celebrate this event and especially to start a shared location to enhance and promote the common heritage of this extraordinary, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano organized a conference: Mediterranean Diet, Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCOto be held from 24 to the 26 February p.v. Pollica and Palinuro. The conference will also take part of the signatory countries with communities emblematic: Crowns (Greece), Soria (Spain) e Chefchaouen (Morocco). The term Mediterranean diet has been coined by the American scientist Ancel Keys, who spent at Poplars, part of the municipality of Pollica, more than thirty years to study the eating habits, lifestyle and health benefits that the power delivered to the people  Cilento coming to define the country of Poplars "homeland" of the Mediterranean Diet. It’ for this reason that Italy wanted to locate in communities in Cilento and Cilento the place of election of this universal value. Welcoming the participants to agree will be the  Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

Giancarlo Galan, alla presenza dei rappresentanti delle istituzioni regionali e provinciali, del presidente del parco e dei sindaci del territorio. Al dibattito presieduto dal Prof.. Giovanni Puglisi, Presidente della Commissione Nazionale Italiana dell’Unesco, parteciperanno esperti della materia. Nell’ambito del convegno è prevista una cerimonia in memoria di Angelo Vassallo, che più di tutti ha sostenuto e creduto alla candidatura della Dieta Mediterranea Patrimonio dell’Umanità, a salvaguardia delle nostre tradizioni e quale ulteriore strumento di sviluppo dell’intera comunità. Non mancheranno momenti di intrattenimento con degustazioni della cucina cilentana e visite guidate nell’area protetta.
