Joan Miró and the essences of the earth

Mirò immagineIn the halls of the MIG. International Museum of Graphic Arts, has opened an exhibition dedicated to Joan Miró (1893-1983).

The exhibition, as planned inauguration of the museum that, living with the Municipal Library "Alexander Appella" synergy develops the relationship between art – literature (are provided, for the season 2011-2012, Degas exhibition, Renoir, Bonnard, Matisse, Dufy) is devoted to a folder with text-book by Joan Perucho, Andreu Bosch, Manescal Onofre and a rich set of lithographs of the great Catalan artist.

The choice of the book-folder is also due to a title, The essence of the earth, limited to operating a museum in the heart of ancient Lucania and the Pollino National Park, always related to the fields to cultivate, the woods to look after, in order to derive the basic substances of life. Fields and woods in Basilicata internal, for decades, due to emigration, have largely abandoned.

The intense lithographs by Miró, performed in 1968 Edicion Poligrafa for Barcelona, and the texts that inspired these lithographs, praise to a fertile land that for centuries has been the support of those who have cultivated, trace of everyday gestures and signs made for millennia by men intent on extracting its essences. The wheat field, the furrow plow, the vegetable garden and fruit color, the vineyard, The grapes squeezed, the flight of bees, the splendor of the trees in autumn, a cherry and almond trees in bloom, weave the seasons and the joys, the hopes and disappointments of generations back dust of a land they have seen the rise or invented with love, patience, work and imagination.

The memory of Miró, Born in Montroig, a country of Catalonia where the signs of the landscape is dry, hard, just as in the Romanesque style, Here in miniature paintings flourished in the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, brought up by the landscape of Van Gogh and frequented by infection with cubism and surrealism with Dali which will become one of the main architects, in contact with the earth finds the native instinct and ingenuity that the poets have helped to rediscover. It is no coincidence that, from the beginning, many of his works bear titles such as The donkey in the garden, The farm, The farmer's, Plowed soil, The ear of corn, Pastoral, to Person who contemplates the sun, of 1942, where, with renewed techniques, the red sun of his childhood stands out in the green space between the field lines and spots that do not take any account of the needs of the depth.

Each painting is a shooting game on which it moves, between scribbles and tiny figurines, a world that is unexpected, devoid of artifice and schemes, in which the thousand flying kites and clash of fantasy. Never evade the rules of painting, graphics, abandoning the sculpture but the happiness of doing, the poetry of germination, beginnings of, just like the earth for thousands of years back, Season after season, to distil its essences.

As is the custom of a library updated, you can read and look at various books and catalogs on the work of Miró, not excluding the last published for the exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, transferred, from 13 October, the Miro Foundation in Barcelona.
