Discovery of the rare Kochia saxicola in Palinuro

Still an extraordinary discovery confirms the high value biogeographic flora of the National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni, UNESCO Heritage: in mid-October along the coast of Capo Palinuro two stations were found Kochia saxicola.

Before you have seen and photographed from a distance, but were not sure. They returned after a week and with the help of members of the cooperative "Porto Palinuro"They collected. Finally, they have brought to the laboratory and analyzed carefully and scrupulously to be scientifically certain. And more, for the emotion they have not been told. But now the three botanical Annalisa Santangelo, Anthony Cross and Sandro Strumia they can communicate officially with satisfaction: “ in some points of the promontory of Palinuro lives Kochia saxicola Guss., rare plant flora Italian, until now known only for two small island stations, Capri and Strombolicchio ”.

The discovery occurred during the field surveys carried out by researchers from the University Federico II of Naples and Caserta SUN, thanks to a research project funded and strongly supported by the Park, rare plants on the territory of the Cilento is home. Kochia saxicola was not among those, because until now no one knew of his presence in the Park: was really a surprise to find extraordinary and scholars have wanted to dedicate this discovery to Professor Vincenzo La Valva, first president of the Park Naturalist.
